When you think of a trip to New Orleans, you probably imagine the rich culture of music, food, and fun. But here at Airboat Adventures, we want to appeal more to your adventurous side. If the city has become a little bit too rambunctious or if you are just looking for a new experience, you have come to the right place. Take a tour in New Orleans with us and experience another side of Louisiana.
What Is a Bayou?
The basic definition of a bayou would be a slow-moving body of water, such as a stream, river, or lake. While that may not sound particularly extraordinary, the slow-moving nature of the water actually causes a unique habitat for a combination of animals and vegetation that can be difficult to find in other regions. In the United States, bayous run from Texas to Alabama, with a majority of the bayous occurring in Louisiana. The tour guides we have at Airboat Adventures are experts on these unique environments, with plenty of knowledge on bayou culture and history, as well as a trained eye to spot the variety of wildlife. Some of the animals commonly spotted on our tours include alligators, snakes, turtles, egrets, herons, and ibis. At certain times of the day or season, we may also run into hawks, owls, bald eagles, white-tailed deer, nutria, raccoons, and more. Keep in mind, however, that weather can have a large effect on the number and type of wildlife out and about during your tour.
What Is an Airboat?
Our preferred method of helping you explore the bayous is by airboat. This is not a vehicle you are going to find driving down the streets of New Orleans. Also called a fanboat, airboats generally have a flat bottom and are run by a propeller and engine enclosed within a cage. Our airboats at Airboat Adventures have elevated seats that can sit six to eight people or 15 to 27 people depending on if you choose our small or large boat package. Scheduling a tour on either is as easy as calling our office to choose one of our tour times.
